SBook Inspector

The SBook Inspector allows you to see and modify individuals properties of a file, the file's template, or an individual entry.

File Info

The File Inspector tells you how many records are in a file, and how many of those records are currently displayed and selected.

The first check box allows you to control whether or not entries are displayed in sorted order.

The next group of check boxes allow you to control SBook's parsing features. In some cases, you may wish to explicitly disable parsing in some or all of the entires in a file. This information is saved with the file, not with any individual entries.

The next group of check boxes is used to determine dialing.

Finally, the last check box allows you to control whether or not a file is opened on startup. This preference is actually stored in your SBook preferences file, rather than in the SBook file itself.

Template Inspector

Every time you create a new SBook entry (with Command-N), SBook will create a new entry and then populate that entry using the Default Template. If you place the string %d in the default template, that string will be replaced with the entry number.

The default sort key is the sort key that is used for new entries that are created. You probably want Smart Sort However, if you are working with a special database where everything needs to be sorted according to the first word, you could specify that here.

Pressing the Factory Default will return your Default Template to one that is specified in the SBook program itself.

Pressing Apply to all will apply the styles in the Template to all of the entries in your SBook. This will cause the following to happen:

  1. The font for the first line of the template will be applied to the first line of all of the entries.
  2. The line justification (left, right or center) of the first line of the template will be applied to the first line of all the entries.
  3. The font for the second line of the template will be applied to the remaining lines of all of the entries.
  4. The line justification (left, right or center) of the second line of the template will be applied to the second line of all the entries.

SBook Entry Inspector

SBook's Entry Inspector allows you to find out things about one or more entries that are selected. The Sort Key pop-up allows you to override SBook's smart searching capability and force an entry to be sorted according to the first, second, second-to-last, or last name. You can also force the entry to be parsed or not parsed, and you can force all of the phone numbers in the entry to be dialed exactly as they appear.

SBook keeps track the times that an entry is created, modified, called, "enveloped" (an envelope is printed), or emailed. This information is displayed in the inspector as well.

You can select multiple entries at a time, and then manipulate them all together using the SBook Inspector.
