Back yard

From this picture, you can see the whole back of the house at 10 Spring Street. This is another historical photograph: two of the three chimneys have now been removed, and the roof that you are looking at no longer exists.

The roof is an interesting story. When we bought the house, we learned that there were three layers of shingles on the roof, which is illegal in Massachusetts. As near as we could tell, the most recent roof had been put on in the 1940s. So a few days after we bought the house, we had the roof replaced. The job took more than two weeks, and the roofers said that they had never before seen a roof so dirty. It turned out that much of the first roof had disintergrated---literally, it had turned into gravel. They filled up three dumpsters with the refuse. Of course, we had to pay for all of this.

In front of the house, you can see some of the shrubs and grape arbors that are in our backyard. The house at 10 Spring Street has a quarter acre right in the middle of downtown Vineyard Haven. This should be a great spot for parties.

Where do you want to go today?
