Allston, MA Ð Putting a new face on one of the world's most important news sources, Zhivago Software began shipping NewsMan on September 30.

Users now have a NEXTSTEP interface for 13 Dow Jones databases, which provide the latest news from the Wall Street Journal; industrial and government news; bond, option, stock, and Treasury quotes; mutual-fund performances; and Standard & Poor's earnings reports, among other information.

NewsMan feeds each database to a dedicated window and processes data requests in threads, which allows users to continue working while data is downloaded. The software also provides an API, so programmers can develop other applications that access NewsMan's functionality. Trading houses, for example, can use NewsMan to retrieve historical or current quotes that feed directly into their custom applications. NewsMan sells for $495 for a single user; the compa
