Mountain View, CA Ð HSD Microcomputer U.S. has put its spell on the NeXT, releasing last month an international spell checker for NeXTSTEP that supports 11 languages.
For $195, users get the HSD Spell application with dictionaries for English and one other language. Additional languages are $99 each. Languages currently supported include Danish, Dutch, English (U.K. and U.S. editions), Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.
HSD Spell ships on two disks with all the language dictionaries; users can unlock additional dictionaries by buying an activation code from HSD.
In any application that supports the NeXTSTEP speller, HSD Spell can be accessed directly from within the program. In applications that do not support the NeXTSTEP speller, text is imported via the Services menu into the HSD spell-check application.
For a limited time, NeXT is bundling HSD Spell with NeXT's European Starting Point Kits.
The spell checker is just the first word from HSD. The company is working on a suite of other linguistics products for the NeXT, including thesauri, proofreading software, and grammar checkers.
