PasteUp 1.1 fixes bugs

by Dan Lavin

Palo Alto, CA Ð With its October release of PasteUp riddled with serious bugs, RightBrain Software rushed a 1.1 version of the page-layout program out the door December 10.

"There were a number of problems I was screaming about in 1.0, but I got 1.1 in recently and most of those problems are gone," said Peter Truskier, R&D manager for Star Graphics in San Francisco. Truskier made it clear, however, that the jury was still out on the new release, and that he had already noticed several problems with the product's four-color-separation capabilities. "I can't trust separations from raster images yet."

Registered users will receive the updated program for free, and RightBrain said that it will replace shrinkwrapped products already in the channel with Version 1.1. The list price remains the same, at $795.

Version 1.0 had at least seven critical bugs that crashed the program, as well as 15 other significant bugs. All have reportedly been fixed in the new release. Many of these had to do with the troublesome text object, which has been an issue throughout development of the product. Since the NeXT text object did not provide enough desired functionality for PasteUp, Right Brain wrote its own.
