Your final paper should be between 2500 and 3500 words long. Depending on formatting, this will be between 8 and 16 pages.
Your final project should be interesting, original, and on a topic discussed in this course. The paper should cover both the legal and moral aspects of the problem that you analyize. You should be sure that make it clear the policy issue that you are addressing; the relevant laws; any cases that have been decided to date; and how the issue is likely to change in the coming years.
We have prepared a list of final project ideas. You are free to pursue any of these or to pursue your own project.
Final papers should be submitted through Moodle.
NPS students are expected to prepare a 5-minute presentation with PowerPoint slides. The slides should be provided to the instructor in advance to the class and will all be loaded onto the classroom computer.
All NPS students have the option of submitting the final project early for reading by the professor. Turn-around time will be 72 hours or less. You will receive comments including the grade that the paper will receive if submitted as-is; you will then have the option to resubmit.
For the purpose of NPS accounting, the `final project' is a take-home final exam. It will be accepted up until Tuesday, December 11th. However, as a take-home exam, you should be aware that assistance will not be provided during exam week. Therefore, if you want to submit your paper for an early reading, you must submit it before the last day of classes.
Finally, all NPS students have the option of resubmitting the assignment of their choice for an improved grade on that assignment.
