The address of my office is 35-010 (the basement). Building 35 is
also known as 127 Massachusetts Avenue. You can plug this into
Mapquest or some other tool to get a better map here.
Anyplace on the map above that is brown is a parking area After 5PM
most of them are available for public use. The places I suggest are:
Parking lot at Vassar and Massachusetts Ave.
Parking lot near bldg 32 and 56 (off main street),
Street parking just about anywhere that there are meters or do
not say "No parking". (Meters shut off at 6pm).
Taking the T
You'll want to get off at the Red Line T-stops.
Kendall: Faster. Go down Main Street such that Legal's
Seafood is on your right. Go down Vassar when it splits off from
Main. MIT's Stata Center will be on your Left. Enter at Building 34
(lots of glass), and follow the directions below.
Central: Easier. Walk towards MIT (away from Harvard) on
Massachusetts Ave. When you hit the corner of Vassar and Mass Ave,
follow the Map.
Getting Inside
For fear of a terrorist attack, MIT has started locking most of it's
doors. This is an interesting measure, since they haven't locked all
of the doors, meaning anyone with a little bit of time can get inside.
Even more sad, many of these doors can only be opened by restricted
keys, not the mag-swipes or RFID that the students have, so even
students cannot go in most doors after 5PM. Very irritating.
In fact, this makes me worry more that someone is going to get mugged
by being unable to hide inside a building.
The consequence of this is that it's hard to get into my building.
Depending upon where you are coming from I recommend these different ways:
Try the building 35 door on Vassar and Main. (I'll unlock this
door if I can.)
Come in through the main entrance, Building 7 at 77 Massachusetts
Ave. Big distinctive columns on Massachusetts Ave. You'll
immediately turn left(North), go down a hallway into bldg 9. Keep
going in that direction until you hit 35. Take two flights of stairs
or the elevator to the basement. Turn left, then left again. Stop in
front of 35-010. My name should be on the door.
Come in through Buiding 34. Distinctive glass entryway, and next
to the Stata center, that eyesore. Get into the building, and go to
the 3rd floor via the elevators in 36. Go West (which will be the
general direction the elevators are facing. Keep going west through
34, then 39, then 37, then finally 35. Turn left inside 35 to the
elevator or stairs. Take four flights of stairs or the elevator to
the basement. Turn left, then left again. Stop in front of 35-010.
My name should be on the door.
Problems
If you have problems, you will want to call me at
(617)258-8547. There is no cellphone reception in the basement, so
this is really the only phone way to get me.
If your phone has AIM, you could also try sending me info to "mitfoley."
