You are looking at the veranda and the porch that are behind 10 Spring Street.
Here is another view:

The veranda was built in the 20s. It has solid construction, although the paint has been pealing off the wood for many years. There is also some very attractive antique green glass that Beth and I are quite fond of. We intend to keep it. The porch is another matter. It is a wreck. It was built in the 40s, and it has no redeeming architectual value. It also seems to be a place where wasps like to build nests. There are two terrible rooms---one is a bathroom, with a cover from a 1941 issue of Field and Streem tacked to the wood, and the other is a closet with a door for a roof. We hope to have the whole thing demolished within the next year or two; until then, it's just kind of scary. This second picture also gives you your first good luck at the back of the house. Next summer, we hope to build a deck on top of the veranda. Where do you want to go today? |
